Each listing shows the services the business declares, such as roof repairs, flat roofing, guttering, roof cleaning and emergency call-outs. Where we've found a public rating, it shows the platform it came from and the date we last checked it. Use the filters to narrow the list. A lot of Poole work is on flat roofs, so the flat roofers filter is often the quickest place to start. Garage roofs, rear extensions and dormers are all common jobs.
We don't inspect roofs or vouch for any business. The order you see is ours, and paid placements are labelled. Treat a listing as a starting point. Ask for written quotes, check insurance and guarantees, and look at each firm's own reviews before you decide. If you'd rather not ring round, use the quote form at the bottom of the page. Describe the job and we may pass it to up to three local roofers.
Roofing in Poole: different areas, different roofs
Different parts of Poole, different roofs. Poole's housing ranges from Victorian and Edwardian villas in Parkstone and Lower Parkstone to Canford Heath, a large estate built in stages from 1963 to the mid-1990s, plus older semis and bungalows in Oakdale, Broadstone and Hamworthy. Older villas often have natural slate or clay tiles with lead valleys and tall chimneys. Newer estates mostly have concrete interlocking tiles. The common jobs there are slipped tiles, cracked ridge mortar and worn felt at the eaves.
The harbour edge. Natural England describes Poole Harbour as one of the largest natural harbours in the world. Homes on Lilliput, Sandbanks, Baiter and the Hamworthy shore take wind straight off the water. Salt speeds up corrosion of nails, clips and gutter brackets, and lightweight ridge and hip tiles are more likely to work loose.
Flats and blocks. Poole has many purpose-built flats, especially near the seafront and harbour. Roof work on a block usually goes through the freeholder or managing agent, not individual leaseholders.
Roofing in Poole: what to know before you get quotes
Old Town roofs are their own job. Poole's Old Town sits within BCP Council's Town Centre Heritage conservation area. The council's appraisal describes:
- many 16th-century High Street buildings that were refaced in the 18th century with Georgian details
- mostly plain clay tile roofs, with natural grey slate on higher-status buildings such as St James' Church and the Guildhall
- gable chimneys and dormer windows along Market Street
Repairs here should match the existing tile and detailing. On listed buildings, anything that isn't like-for-like needs listed building consent. Before you agree a price, ask the roofer whether they've worked on clay plain tiles and traditional leadwork.
Other protected areas. BCP's conservation areas also include:
- Sandbanks
- Branksome Park and Chine Gardens
- Ashley Cross
- Ridgeway and Broadstone Park
Like-for-like repairs are normally fine. Changing the roof material, adding dormers or changing the roof's shape may need planning permission.
Harbour and coast exposure. Homes around the harbour, Sandbanks and the cliff-top parts of Canford Cliffs and Branksome get more wind and salt than those further inland. Over time this is hard on:
- ridge and verge mortar
- metal fixings
- lead flashings
It's worth a check from the ground after a storm, and before winter if the roof hasn't been looked at for a few years.
Lots of flat roofs. Garage roofs, extensions, dormers and many modern coastal houses mean flat roofs make up a big share of Poole roofing work. The three common systems are felt, EPDM rubber and GRP fibreglass. When comparing quotes:
- Ask which system each roofer proposes and why.
- Check how the edges, outlets and fall (drainage) will be handled.
- Get the guarantee in writing.
Building regulations. Re-covering more than half a roof, or making structural changes, normally needs building control approval (Planning Portal).
Typical costs. These are national ranges, excluding VAT, from Which?'s November 2025 survey of 11 Which? Trusted Traders. Your quote will depend on access, scaffolding and the roof itself.

How to choose a roofer in Poole
- Check they actually cover your side of town. A firm based in Christchurch may cover Broadstone less often than Parkstone. The coverage line on each listing is a guide, so confirm when you ask for a quote.
- Get written, itemised quotes that show scaffolding, removing the old covering, any timber replacement and the guarantee.
- Ask for proof of public liability insurance, and whether the guarantee is insurance-backed.
- For harbour-side homes, ask which fixings they'll use. Stainless or coated fixings stand up better to salt.
