Searches for Christchurch roofers aren't only about leaks. Many are about guttering, fascias and roof cleaning, which suits bungalows and other low-rise homes, where gutters and moss build-up are easy to spot from the ground. Each listing shows which of these services the business declares, plus flat roofing and emergency call-outs where they offer them. Use the filters to cut the list down to the job you have.
Ratings shown here are copied from named public platforms, with the date we checked them. They aren't our own scores. We don't inspect work, and the listing order is set by us, with paid placements labelled. Shortlist two or three firms, get written quotes, and check reviews on their own profiles before agreeing to anything. You can also send one request through the form below, and we may pass it to up to three roofers who cover your postcode.
Bungalows and low-rise homes. On bungalows, chalet bungalows and other low-rise homes, low eaves make gutters, fascias and soffits easy to reach. They're also where water damage shows up first, as blocked outlets, sagging runs and rotting fascia boards behind older timber gutters.
Moss and roof cleaning. Concrete tiles on shaded or north-facing slopes, especially under the pines and mature trees around Highcliffe and Walkford, tend to gather moss. Moss itself rarely causes a leak, but it can block gutters and valleys. Pressure-washing can damage some tiles, so ask a roof cleaner how they'll do it and whether a biocide treatment is planned.
Rivers and the harbour. The Avon and the Stour meet at Christchurch and flow into Christchurch Harbour. The council's flood risk assessment notes that large areas of Christchurch, most notably the town centre, west Christchurch and around the harbour, are protected by river and coastal defences. To check your own address, use the Environment Agency's flood map. Good drainage from the roof and gutters matters here, so water is carried well away from walls.
Which council? Christchurch was part of Hampshire until 1974 and is now in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) Council, created in 2019. Planning and building control questions go to BCP.
A lot of historic roofs. Christchurch Central was designated a conservation area in May 1969. BCP's appraisal highlights its high number of listed and locally listed buildings, led by the Grade I listed Priory.
If your home is listed, any roof work that isn't like-for-like needs listed building consent. That includes:
If you're in the conservation area, check with BCP planning before changing materials or the roof's shape.
Other protected areas. BCP's other Christchurch conservation areas include:
The Mudeford Quay appraisal describes Regency-era buildings and a simple palette of painted or rendered brick with red clay tile or natural Welsh slate roofs. Those are the materials a repair should match.
Harbour and clifftop exposure. Mudeford, Stanpit, Friars Cliff and Highcliffe face Christchurch Harbour or the open sea. Wind-driven rain and salt are hard on:
After a storm, look for tiles on the ground, slipped verge tiles and damp patches on top-floor ceilings.
Building regulations. Re-covering more than half a roof, or making structural changes, normally needs building control approval (Planning Portal).
Typical costs. These are national ranges, excluding VAT, from Which?'s November 2025 survey of 11 Which? Trusted Traders. Your quote will depend on access, scaffolding and the roof itself.
| Job | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Replacing 1–6 tiles | £75–£400 |
| Replacing a single ridge tile | £80–£300 |
| New tiled roof on a three-bed house | £7,000–£21,000 |
Checkatrade's 2026 guide puts natural slate repairs at about £150–£220 per m², excluding VAT. Work on listed buildings with specialist materials can cost more.

FAQs
Like-for-like repairs, using matching slate or tile and the same method, usually don't need consent. Changing the material, adding rooflights or altering chimneys does need listed building consent. If you're unsure, ask BCP's conservation team before work starts. Doing the work without consent can be an offence.
Some do. For example, NSG Roofing lists Christchurch, Highcliffe and Mudeford in its coverage, and McDevitt Roofing Services is a Highcliffe family firm. Many others list "Christchurch and nearby" or a wider Dorset area, which often includes Burton and Walkford. Coverage varies by firm, so check the areas on each profile, or give your postcode when you ask for a quote.
Check from the ground or from a window. Don't climb up. Look for tiles or slates in the garden, slipped tiles at the edges of the roof, lifted lead around the chimney and new stains on top-floor ceilings. Take photos. If water is coming in near electrics, turn off the power to that area and say so when you call.
Which?'s November 2025 survey put replacing 1–6 tiles at £75–£400, excluding VAT. Scaffolding, or matching reclaimed tiles on an older house, will add to that.
Christchurch was in Hampshire until 1974 and is now part of BCP Council in Dorset. Planning, conservation and building control questions go to BCP. Many roofers on this page list Christchurch alongside Bournemouth and Poole for that reason.
If the gutters are sound and only full of moss and leaves, a clean and an outlet check may be enough. Replacement is usually worth considering when joints leak again after resealing, the brackets have failed, the runs no longer fall towards the downpipe, or the fascia behind is rotten. Ask the roofer to show you photos of what they find.
It depends on the roof. Light moss on a sound concrete-tile roof is mainly a looks and gutter-blocking issue. Heavy growth can hold water and lift tiles over time. Some cleaning methods can damage older or more brittle tiles, so ask what the roofer recommends for your roof and why.
The main factors are how many metres need replacing, the material, whether scaffolding or a tower is needed (bungalows often need less), whether the fascia and soffit boards are replaced at the same time, and whether rainwater goods on a listed or conservation-area home need to match the originals.
